You’ve always known the RS 5 as an Audi on steroids, & just like its human counterpart it is more powerful & looks more aggressive. So what does the 2018 Audi RS 5 have to offer, & is it worth the hefty $90,500 price tag?
Since the title gave it away, you already know the V8 has been axed in favor of a the 2.9L V6 Twin Turbo used in the Porsche Panamera 4S. But don’t worry you power hungry fiends, the 2018 RS 5 still turns out 450hp & 443 ft-lbs of torque. It will launch the car from 0-62 in a very respectable 3.9 seconds. With the Dynamic Package (optional) you can reach a top speed of 174 MPH. The turbos are mounted on the top of the engine for increased efficiency. Sorry, no manual transmission is available, just the 8 Speed tiptronic. The AWD system offers a 40:60 power distribution. A Rear sport differential is optional. Audi seems particularly excited about its new suspension which they say “improves comfort significantly” while still maintaining that sporty feel. You will be able to change the driving modes to adapt to your driving style. Also, thanks to a smaller engine & other weight reduction measures, the RS 5 weighs 132 lbs less than the previous model.
Audi indicated the designers were inspired by the Audi 90 quattro IMSA GTO. The massive honeycomb air inlets look supercar-ish & serve a purpose. Also, the grille looks extremely bold, & may teeter on the fence of angry. It sort of looks Mustangy, which is word made up just for the purpose of this article. Audi interiors are sometimes so boring they can put a child with ADHD to sleep, but this one is different. The black leather with red diamond stitched accents makes it really feel like a sports car. The 2018 Audi RS 5 will be available in Europe this month. It’s safe to guess this will be available in the USA at sometime in the future because the last one was, however Audi has not made this known for sure just yet.
