Can’t Afford An R8? The Audi TT RS Just Got A Bit Cooler.

Earlier today Audi announced it will be bringing its us spec 2018 TT RS to the New York International Auto Show.  We put some important specs below, so if you’re a person who does not care about all of this reading nonsense just skip to the bottom. If you REALLY like to read, the link to the press release is also at the bottom. Here, i’m going to summarize what is important.

With the exception of the R8, this may be one of the best looking Audi’s of all time. The TT has always been a bit meek, & shy.  Your yoga instructor might have driven one, or even you friend Sean from California who loves surfing. This one tells a slightly different story. I’m not going to describe the looks for you, check out the pictures for yourself.

For the first time, the TT will have an genuine launch control which may be a great way to make eyes sink into your skull considering this is the most powerful production TT ever made. Quattro (Audi’s AWD system) is standard & has the ability to send nearly 100% of torque to the rear wheels. Audi did not specify if there would be some differential control, but probably not. There will be 4 distinctive drive modes, though Audi does not mention (in this release) what parameters are changed by selecting each one. The modes are Comfort, Auto, Dynamic, and Individual.

As for it’s legs, the 2018 Audi TT RS has four-link rear suspension & a McPherson front suspension with Magnetic Ride Dampers. With a dynamic system like this, the car can adjust to the road so (hopefully) the ride won’t be too harsh in the city. And if you have driven a TT in NYC, you know how terrible it can be. If you really want to break a wheel and bust your rear on some potholes Audi offers a RS fixed sport suspension, included in the Dynamic plus package. They say it “offers a stiffer ride for enhanced performance.”

The 2018 Audi TT RS also has something called Progressive steering. Basically the steering ratio changes if you are turning. Also, the Audi has some super awesome rear tail lights if you are into that sort of thing “…for the first time in a series-production Audi, the TT RS offers available OLED (organic light-emitting diode) rear taillights in a visually impressive 3D design.”
