Tesla finally unveiled the most affordable car in it’s line up, the model 3, and for $35k it didn’t look too horrible, that is, until they showed us the interior.
I’ve never been a big fan of Tesla’s exterior design, they don’t have enough spark to get my juices flowing. Whenever i see one i think of some strange future where you’re issued a government approved car, house & clothes. Where autonomy is a thing of the past. But for now, the way a Tesla looks is still unique, and there’s something to be said about that.
As for the interior, it may be the most boring thing I’ve ever seen apart from a strange Japanese concept car. Believe me, i’m all for the less is more approach, but there comes a point wither the ‘less’ is too little, & it creates a feeling of laziness. I don’t see an ounce of excitement anywhere in there. It looks like someone took duct tape & affixed an iPad to the center of the dash.
While Tesla’s are known for their self driving & collision avoidance technologies i’d still argue that reading info mounted in the center is more dangerous than if it were right in front of you. If you look closely there is no information above the wheel, right in front of your face where you’re used to it being.
When it all comes down to neither the simplicity nor position of the information is too bad. What really gets my goat is the lack of tactile controls. I love being able to adjust my radio or ac without having to look at what i’m doing. I’m like a 5 year old, i love buttons, switches & knobs so not having that makes me a bit let down.
